This is simple your perfume or cologne should leave the room with you. Just because you love the smell does not mean everyone else does. Be kind and remember not everyone has the stomach or nose to handle what you are putting out there.

This blog is intended for business attire and or business topics, but today I would like to share something with you. My mom has been given a bad diagnosis, and at her age, to not do anything is really the best option. We just lost my dad, and I know she wants to be with him. But what has struck me about all of this is that they have both lived extrodinary lives. Lives that involved helping others and sharing what they had with others. So today as we begin out day let's remember what life is really about. It's about being there for each other and caring for each other. For making and building extrodinary lives for ourselves and others. So go make this a Rock and Roll, day for yourself and those around you.

When purchasing a suit jacket here is a little known trick that will be helpful when deciding the length of sleeve on your jacket. If you have long arms, let more of the cuff of the shirt show, it helps to create the illusion of a shorter arm. Just the opposite is true for someone with short arms. Hem the sleeve a llittle longer with less shirt cuff showing it creates the illusion of a longer arm.

I love when I am being the keynote speaker at an event and I get asked how to dress for a specific happening in that person's life, be it a job interview, a wedding, a graudation or just goint to the store. My advise is always the same and it always will be. Your exterior look represents who and what you are, dress to express that. Show the world who you are by looking the part. It always pays to represent yourself in the very best light.

I always believe that when it comes to business attire it is pretty straight forward for most businesses. There are however, creative businesses where the employee can or wants to look the part of being a creative person. Just how far you take a creative look while in a business enviroment is up to the company you work for. There are pretty tried and true rules however that apply even in a creative enviroment. They are 1.no heavy cologne's or perfume 2. keep tattoos hidden or be very discreet with them 3. an overload of piercings especially in the face, 4 no cleavage 5. no flip flops or rubber sandals. In this enviroment you always need to stay on grooming, as it can get sloppy o

I know this is suppose to be a blog about business attire, fashion and style. But today it's not, it's about an amazing book that I read awhile ago but the author keep popping up everywhere I read something. The book is "The Blue Sweater, Bridging the Gap between the Rich and the Poor in an Interconnected World." It's one of the most amazing books on world poverty and how to overcome it, it ways that really work. The author Jacqueline Novograitz has set up the Acumen Fund which microfinances businesses around the world, you can find Acumen Fund on Facebook. READ THE BOOK.

Tomorrow I will once again be presenting to a group of men who have recently been released from prison. They are in a program that helps to get them to a new place in life so they stop being repeat offenders. It's actually an amazing audience, they appreciate the fact that we have taken times from our lives to come in and talk to them about dressing and presenting themselves for succes in an interview. One would think they would be a scary crowd, not at all they are so excited to hear what we have to say, because it could be important to changing their lives. Last time Pete and I spoke we were voted the best presentatiion they had had. Life is always interesting that is for sure.

I have been at the Mall of America lately shopping for clients. It's not my most favorite place in the world, to much overload, but you have everything in one indoor place. My biggest diaapointment however is the shopper themselves. MOA, gets people from all over the world, but why is it so easy to pick out those from the Midwest? Because of the way they dress. I know the economy is tough right not, or maybe your just there for the amusement park, but seriously I have seen some of the sloppiest, most awfully dressed people in the world at this mall. The way we dress, is a big indication of how we feel about yourselves, I really wish people would pay a bit more attention to detail and dress with a little style and appropriateness to the situation. Come on Midwest, we ca

How much information do you think is out there about the classic white shirt? Tons, so I am going to keep it very simple. There is nothing better than a crisp white shirt in the summer. Make sure the shirt's fit is impeccable, that the shoulders are where your shoudlers are, that buttons don't gap, that stitching it straight and evenly spaced.
Now how do you keep it crisp and white? If you get a stain on a white shirt, there are several things you can do to help remove them. Make a paste of your detergent you can add a bit of bleach or 1/4 cup baking soda to the paste. If the stain is grass, red wine or somthing a little more difficult to remove, consider buying Carbona's spot removers in the bottle that has the stain labeled on it. These are great I have had a lot of luck with them.
If your shirt has gotten dingy use Rit Dye, Whitener and Brightener or White Wash to restore your shirt to it's original white.

I know this is not necessarily a fashion or business attire topic, but it's been on my mind a lot lately. I work part-time so I have health benefits. Of course it's a job in fashion as a personal shopper and in store event person. I have been really disapponted in the company of late. Even though our store got a great review and we increased sales they are after our management because the district manager doesn't like us. We have been living in limbo for at least 4 weeks, some of us have called the hotline, we have had clients write the CEO, and yet we see and hear nothing. Retail is a hard enough job, we have all worked to bring in the neighborhood, and for what?   TRUST who do you trust in corporate retail any more. I need a new health benefits j
