This velvet coat like items, is a personal favorite. I wear it over a very thin lightweight cashmere sweater, and then this beautiful multi string necklace. I wear this during the day time as well as at night otherwise it does not get worn much. I have always like the idea of dressy with not dressy in the same outfit, I have dressed like that for years. I would probably not wear the necklace if I were to wear this during the day for a work attire. Perfect with my 505 Levi's from Kohl's.

This is a great evening look, however if it's more dressy I would chose one of my evening bags and not this big one.

It was a long big week-end so I owe all you my followers an apology for not posting my blog this week-end. Either there wasn't time or I was too tired. This is one of my favorite outfits. I love this layered ruffle jacket in navy grosgrain/ It's comfortable and depending on the jewelry it can be dressed up or dressed down. These are the kinds of jacket you should look for one that suits many needs, times of day and formalities. That way you get your money's worth. I have it styled here with a rhinestone necklace, but if I were to wear it for everyday I would just leave it plain or add a smaller necklace. The red belt is in keeping with the red lining trim, even though you probably will only see a peak of the belt
Remember that straight legged jeans are the most flattering for the most body types. .

Red Hobo bag and vintage red high heels, I can get away with all this red because the outfit is so somber in color.

I hate to admit it but it is starting to feel like fall, with cooler nights and shorter days. It's not fall that I don't like it's winter. I mean I live in Minnesota, enough said. So it's already day seven of my little project. So here goes with another idea for an age appropriate outfit, worn with denim jeans. Again please don't copy these looks, but take inspiration from them and develop your own style from what you see and learn here.
I am not afraid to wear color, it keeps me sane actually, so this orange red sweater (Tippi by J. Crew) which is a recent "hot" fashion color is just what the doctor ordered for me. Paired with my Levi's Trucker vest, adorned with vintage cameo pins. Depending on what I want to wear for jewelry I might change the pins for another collection of them, or have nothing at all if I am wearing a bold necklace. Do not over accessorize.  The belt is a antiqued gold from Paris that I have had forever, the jeans are  Matchstick by J. Crew. I would do the bold bigger fold up cuff on the bottom of the jeans for this look.

Brown bag and black biker boots. Perfection.

Brown bag and boots works too.

Brown bag and Italian boots make it a bit more dressy but still very casual.

Colder weather hit Minnesota during the night last night. It was cold walking Henry this morning. This is a great easy to throw on look for me. The sweater is a khaki green it hits just below the behind. I add the trim which I copied from a magazine picture or something (I do this a lot). I always get a lot of great comments about the sweater. The scarf is a very soft cotton knit from a French line of clothing, which J. Crew carries some of the pieces. The roll of the jeans should be small and soft, to stay in keeping the softness of the outfit.
I can wear either the black purse by Marc Jacobs with my Italian boots, or my brown purse with brown hiking boots. I could put ballet flats with this outfit as well, to make it more girly.

Banana Republic cotton sweater that I add trim too. (I copied the idea ok?) Levi's with a gold thin belt which will not be seen. A Saint James knit scarf again from J. Crew.

Brown Banana Republic purse, many years old but cared for. Italian boots, I love these guys, they go with everything.

I love rolling the bottom of my jeans, I always think it makes it look like I pay a little extra attention to how I wear them. The first pair on the left has a simple twice fold over roll, in this case it shows that these jeans are cut on the selvedge which makes them special. The middle pair has a roll that is a little less formed (it's how J. Crew does it) it's actually harder to achieve because of the unevenness of it. Yhe third on the right is a big cuff look, just make sure your jeans are long enough for this. You do not want to look like your trying to be overly young.

We are never ever happy with what we are given for body types. While we should be happy that we have good health and wonderful personalities we fret over our bodies. So let's do some looking at how clothes can change that.
This outfit is great for an older woman who has a short torso, the sweater brings the eye downward, making the model look longer waist ed. The hem length is perfect, right at the knee.  If you go too short you will look like your are trying to look like your daughter or trying to look too young. Any longer and you would look really dragged down and frumpy. The tone on tone color or the outfit, makes her look taller and skinnier. What a fun outfit for fall and winter. Remember though this may not be a color for you, so stay within your personal color palette.

Did you know that mixing two parts of Tea Tree Oil to one part water, put in spray bottle and use on clothing to keep ticks at bay.

Stop don't do it. Outfits, or head to toe looks are not even sorta cool, besides it really does age your look.  Don't walk into a store and buy a complete outfit, instead mix it up it's much more fun and much more interesting. Here is an example. Take a simple sweater paired with a skirt or pants, add some amazing accessories such as a big statement necklace, a pair or attention getting earrings, or a vintage handbag, then strut your stuff. Try mixing a cheap t-shirt with an expensive skirt or pants, then add pearls and a cool handbag. Think out of the box, ask yourself what a woman in Paris or New York would  do. Never be afraid of mixing items you love, chances are you will feel comfortable and confident that way and others will feel it too. Don't take clothes seriously have fun with them.
