You all know how I am always preaching multiples, well here it goes again. These two Boyfriend Sweaters from J. Crew, are two of my favorite sweaters, I have one in a sand colored linen for summer as well. These sweaters are so comfortable and I love how flattering they are for me. Either sweater can be worn with either necklace and of course another one of my many pairs for Levi's 505 from Kohl's. Now remember when you find a top that works, purchase it in several colors. Often I will buy one and figure out how much I love it and then I go back for more. Often times the second and third ones are on sale, which makes me even happier. If you purchase classic basics like these you can have them for several seasons.

Depending on the event, or the day either necklace works with either color, the belt works with both. I would put a crisp roll on the hem of the jeans as the sweaters are so soft and drape-y.

For much more casual look, even with the necklaces.

This dresses it up a bunch.

Menswear dressing for fall is really hot stuff. I personally love it, as I am way more tailored then "girly." So here are some tips for wearing this look. My jacket is a bit over sized but not by much, it's double breasted too so that makes it seem a bit bigger. In order to control the look and make it not look sloppy I wear a white shirt (you can add a lace cami, or a ruffled blouse) that fits me closer to my body. My jeans are straight legged Levi's 506 and for sure I would wear a belt probably a colorful one or one with some detail like studs. The pearls are rather tongue in cheek, adding a little swagger. I would definitely roll the sleeves up along with the shirt sleeves as added attitude. So roll to the jean hem again a little more feminine.

I love either of these bag and shoe options although I can think of a lot more I could do. These however, add color and a little touch of "she's a girl."

Remember that style always trumps fashion, especially as we get older. So knowing what looks good on us is what we need to go for in our dress. Fit, proportion, style and color are what we need to think about when purchasing clothing. What I am trying to give you here is a sense of mixing and matching, of putting together the unexpected, of creating a look that is ours but unique. That is style. Fashion is the small touches we put together to keep us current.

I made this Chanel style jacket. I have a J. Crew wool tee, red skinny belt and 505 Levi's. with it.

I did the bead work on the back as well.

A close up of the bead work, I have to say this does not do it justice.

These accessories would make this outfit less formal looking.

This time of year one minutes it's hot another it's cool or cooler out. I love to have a great jacket or sweater by my side to accommodate those days. This is a J. Crew grey wool jacket, it's did not photo as well as I would have liked, it's more fitted then it appears, I wear it with all my shirts, it takes an outfit up a notch more so than a sweater. So this is a pair of 506 Levi's from Kohl's, the red gingham shirt, bubble necklace and belt are all J. Crew. Because I have so much red in the outfit itself I have chose my boots and shoes in other colors to not overwhelm the look.  I roll the sleeves of the shirt up and over the jacket and push the sleeves up a bit to give it some attitude. For this I would do a neat two roll cuff on the jeans.

I hate to admit it but it is starting to feel like fall, with cooler nights and shorter days. It's not fall that I don't like it's winter. I mean I live in Minnesota, enough said. So it's already day seven of my little project. So here goes with another idea for an age appropriate outfit, worn with denim jeans. Again please don't copy these looks, but take inspiration from them and develop your own style from what you see and learn here.
I am not afraid to wear color, it keeps me sane actually, so this orange red sweater (Tippi by J. Crew) which is a recent "hot" fashion color is just what the doctor ordered for me. Paired with my Levi's Trucker vest, adorned with vintage cameo pins. Depending on what I want to wear for jewelry I might change the pins for another collection of them, or have nothing at all if I am wearing a bold necklace. Do not over accessorize.  The belt is a antiqued gold from Paris that I have had forever, the jeans are  Matchstick by J. Crew. I would do the bold bigger fold up cuff on the bottom of the jeans for this look.

Brown bag and black biker boots. Perfection.

Brown bag and boots works too.

Brown bag and Italian boots make it a bit more dressy but still very casual.

I have to apologize week-ends are always so busy and I never thought I would not be able to post yesterday but alas it did not happen. So here is Day Six and Day Seven back to back.
This is my favorite sweater of all time, it's from J. Crews collection from two years ago. It's Merino Wool, even the lace is wool. I wore it this past January when I got married. I always save it for going out when jeans are ok, but I want to look a little more dressed up. The necklace is always a favorite I have two of these J. Crew Bubble necklaces the red and a blue grey. I love how big it is and the red makes me happy. The jeans are Levi's 505 from Kohl's.

Hobo red bag and these Farylrobin shoes are so comfortable even to dance in. I love the retro feel without looking like I bought from a museum.

Red Hobo bag with my Italian boots. Either of these purse/shoes combos work for me in terms of looking dressy. They are both very stylist and yet I can dance up a storm. I love Fridays.

Colder weather hit Minnesota during the night last night. It was cold walking Henry this morning. This is a great easy to throw on look for me. The sweater is a khaki green it hits just below the behind. I add the trim which I copied from a magazine picture or something (I do this a lot). I always get a lot of great comments about the sweater. The scarf is a very soft cotton knit from a French line of clothing, which J. Crew carries some of the pieces. The roll of the jeans should be small and soft, to stay in keeping the softness of the outfit.
I can wear either the black purse by Marc Jacobs with my Italian boots, or my brown purse with brown hiking boots. I could put ballet flats with this outfit as well, to make it more girly.

Picture
Banana Republic cotton sweater that I add trim too. (I copied the idea ok?) Levi's with a gold thin belt which will not be seen. A Saint James knit scarf again from J. Crew.

Brown Banana Republic purse, many years old but cared for. Italian boots, I love these guys, they go with everything.

These jeans are not new they are from my closet. Some I have had for awhile some I not so long. Most are a darker wash which is more flattering for an older person (older then 39 that is).
From left to right they are:
1.Eco Vintage bootcut (I like straight leg but I got these because the bootcut is not too wide at the bottom) and they were Eco friendly.
2.Levi's  Eco straight leg.
3 Levi's 505 straight leg from Kohl's
4.Levi's  505 straight leg from Kohl's
5. Levi's 505 straight leg from Kohl's
6. Levi's 505 straight leg from Kohl's
7. Levi's Jodhpur style skinny leg (no longer made)
8. Levi's 501 Vintage men's
9. J. Crew matchstick in a medium wash.
As you can see they are all worn and loved.

Men I have not forgotten about you, but being a woman it's usually all about me, oh and other woman. So with that in mind I am posting some cool glasses or reading glasses for you stylist older men.

Waylaid. These rock the look for sure.

I borrowed this book from my daughter. Last night I crawled into bed, watch Gabby take home the gold for gymnastics at the Olympics and read this book. I am a woman so I can do two things at once.  I thought I knew a lot about green living and actually I do, but this one has added even more fuel to the fire. I love the beauty and health tips. Eating to support healthy skin and your personal health, using organic products for caring for your skin, hair, and to use as make-up. BEing kind to the planet, saving money and looking drop dead gorgeous or handsome. What is not to love.? I can't wait to curl up again tonight to read more.
