I have only two days left of my "30 Days of Denim", but I decided to interrupt my calendar to bring you information on the care and feeding of your denim. Some of us have jeans that we have had forever, they are probably our most "go-to" items in our closet. The older jeans get the more care they need, but so do your new ones need loving care. Come on, jeans put in a hard day's work , if you prone to wearing them a lot. So like you they need some tender loving care too. Here is some great information. 1. Jeans can be worn 5-10 times before being laundered unless they are used from some pretty grimy work. 2. When you do wash your jeans turn them inside out, make sure you have zipped them up and buttoned them at the waist. 3. I usually use very little detergent (I do have a front load washer, which typically uses less ). If they are brand new I will put about a half a cup of white vinegar in the wash as it helps to set the indigo dye. Woolite also haS a dark wash product that works well. USE ONLY COLD WATER. 4. After they have washed pull them out, straighten the legs and hang from the waist. I let my jeans air dry until there is just a little dampness left, then they go in the dryer. It helps so they are less stiff. Do it for just a very few minutes. Drying is hard on jeans. 5. Jeans should be hung straight, I hang mind from the hen as it helps to keep them wrinkle free and may be just maybe helps to lengthen them. 6. This is the most wonderful tip of all, if you don't want to launder your jeans yet wrap them up and put them in the freezer overnight to kill any bacteria, you think they may have. TOMORROW HOW TO WASH SELVEDGE VINTAGE JEANS.
Lace and crochet continue to be a big seller for this fall. This khaki open knit sweater is awesome, I pair it with an animal print camisole underneath. To add color and drama big orange beads for J.Crew (past season's) and an orange red belt complete the outfit. I have my Vintage Made in America Levi's pair with the outfit. In this case I would do the uneven roll at the hem. Then add color with the accessories.
More drama with color and some very rocking black boots.
More casual but still works.
Add the scarf second from left top row and it's a real winner.
I love red, which you already know if you follow me. This sweater has a lot of say on it's own, so when accessorizing, I use something that is in another color range but can hold it own against the red. The animal print belt makes it fun and interesting, to match red everywhere else would be a disaster.
Modern red J. Crew Tippi sweater, bubble necklace in a color no longer sold and J. Crew animal print belt. The Levi's are the Made In America Vintage boys jeans. You would not believe what I had to do to get them to fit. I would do a soft roll at the hem.
Very casual and yet works with this outfit.
These booties are my favorite shoes, even though they are reddish I can still wear them with this sweater. They are so muted in color.
It was a long big week-end so I owe all you my followers an apology for not posting my blog this week-end. Either there wasn't time or I was too tired. This is one of my favorite outfits. I love this layered ruffle jacket in navy grosgrain/ It's comfortable and depending on the jewelry it can be dressed up or dressed down. These are the kinds of jacket you should look for one that suits many needs, times of day and formalities. That way you get your money's worth. I have it styled here with a rhinestone necklace, but if I were to wear it for everyday I would just leave it plain or add a smaller necklace. The red belt is in keeping with the red lining trim, even though you probably will only see a peak of the belt Remember that straight legged jeans are the most flattering for the most body types. .
J. Crew channel style jacket with Levi's 505, red J. Crew skinny belt and J. Crew Rhinestone necklace.
Red Hobo bag and vintage red high heels, I can get away with all this red because the outfit is so somber in color.
Ballet flats and a channel style jacket are you kidding perfect. Red Hobo bag.
It's warm and humid today we are back into summer, the nights seem to cool off though. This is one of my most favorite outfits, as you guessed I am an animal rights person, so I love faux animal prints. This linen shirt I will wear year round, the linen jacket is meant to be a wrinkled mess, I love the large pearls. As you know pearls are a girls best friend. I have paired the outfit with Levi's 505, I do the messier sorta put together roll at the ankle and added the red skinny belt. Such a great outfit. Paired with my Red Hobo purse and vintage red shoes. Big jewelry is still very much in, which is fine by me.
J. Crew jacket, shirt and necklace.
I love the idea of red accents with this outfit, it really takes it up a notch.
This time of year one minutes it's hot another it's cool or cooler out. I love to have a great jacket or sweater by my side to accommodate those days. This is a J. Crew grey wool jacket, it's did not photo as well as I would have liked, it's more fitted then it appears, I wear it with all my shirts, it takes an outfit up a notch more so than a sweater. So this is a pair of 506 Levi's from Kohl's, the red gingham shirt, bubble necklace and belt are all J. Crew. Because I have so much red in the outfit itself I have chose my boots and shoes in other colors to not overwhelm the look. I roll the sleeves of the shirt up and over the jacket and push the sleeves up a bit to give it some attitude. For this I would do a neat two roll cuff on the jeans.
Blsck Marc Jacobs bag and Italian boots.
Brown bag and brownish red, and black menswear shoes.
Today I was feeling old, I had just gotten several fashion magazines and it made me feel old. I thought why am I writing this, why do I care, is anyone even looking at this. Then I snapped out of and realized that there a lot of women of a certain age, that care, about how they look. Not so much if they are "in fashion" but whether they look great, age appropriate and feel amazing in their own skin and the clothing they are wearing. So I carry on sharing my ideas and sense of style. The bonus at the end of this photo session you will see a photo from the new J. Crew catalog, it's Linda Rodin a famous stylist, fashion icon, and now the owner of a beauty line. She's older and she cares, and she wears J. Crew and Levi's.
I made this jacket out of a couple of men's cotton knit tees that were on sale. I used ideas and directions from one of the Alabama Chanin sewing books, It's verse applique. The shirt I made too, it's a small lightweight cotton print. The jeans are Levi's 505. Red belt from J. Crew.
This is a detail of the sleeve and part of the back. I used the tee shirt design printed on the front and embroidered around them.
The jacket is sorta casual and sweatshirt-ish. so I would wear it with boots.
Linda Rodin for J. Crew.
It's such a beautiful morning this morning, the sky is a most beautiful blue, this is the time of year when it goes from hoy to cold, cold to hot, day to day. It makes it harder to decide the day before what to wear. I like to layer so I can add or subtract from my outfit, makes it easier this time of year. So with that here is the next outfit. The purses I have been choosing and the shoes at well are a little more fall then summer, just remember that is the season we are looking forward to. I have chosen a necklace that is more somber in colors to go with the darker navy sweater. Oh, yes and here is a tip on denim or jeans. If you love a pair of jeans and they fit everywhere but the waist get them. You can have them altered to fit, easily. I usually have them take a bit out at the back behind the loop. I have them the waistband taken in more at the top of the band then at the bottom. This makes the waistband curve ever so slightly inwards so you don't have that gap in the back when sitting down. WOW.
I wear my white jeans all year long, today is a great day for this look. It's a light weight cotton v-neck sweater in the color navy. I have added a pink belt for a little fun.
Red Hobo purse and black ballet flats.
Black Marc Jacobs bag and Red Aerosole shoes. The open toes make them great for summer or fall.
Colder weather hit Minnesota during the night last night. It was cold walking Henry this morning. This is a great easy to throw on look for me. The sweater is a khaki green it hits just below the behind. I add the trim which I copied from a magazine picture or something (I do this a lot). I always get a lot of great comments about the sweater. The scarf is a very soft cotton knit from a French line of clothing, which J. Crew carries some of the pieces. The roll of the jeans should be small and soft, to stay in keeping the softness of the outfit. I can wear either the black purse by Marc Jacobs with my Italian boots, or my brown purse with brown hiking boots. I could put ballet flats with this outfit as well, to make it more girly.
Banana Republic cotton sweater that I add trim too. (I copied the idea ok?) Levi's with a gold thin belt which will not be seen. A Saint James knit scarf again from J. Crew.
Brown Banana Republic purse, many years old but cared for. Italian boots, I love these guys, they go with everything.
