When the cold weather hit my hair looked like I had my hands on one of those static electricity globes. It had a life of it's own. My daughter works for Aveda Corporation, she recommended Light Elements. What a difference one tiny little drop of this makes. I apply one tiny drop to my wet hair, it makes it easier to comb out and no more electrical hair-dos. Add Comment Ok, I did it again. I did not post anything yesterday sorry. Saturday's are so hectic, so forgive me if I do not accomplish my blog on Saturday. These four sweaters are all the same style, just different colors, khaki, dark grey, pale pink and heather grey. These sweaters are my favorite I wear them with any or all of my jeans but I also where them with my pencils skirts. When you find something that fits, it's one of the first things you go to to wear, by all means buy several. I usually keep my eye for a sale or a discount. These are of course from J. Crew, they don't really have this style any more but it's a classic, and if kept in good shape I will have them for a long time. I have chosen these colors because I can mix them with any of my shirts. That is the key to buying multiples, they each need to go with at least three things already in your closet.
I brought these with me on a trip to the lake for the week-end. I put them on dry and proceed to go into the lake with these pants on. I sat in the sand and rubbed my bottom and legs in it. I took hands full of sand and scrubbed the fronts. I did this three time that week-end while there. I then washed them three more times in cold water in the washing machine and hung to dry. They are perfect now, I love them. Only a person truly dedicated to having a pair of these would go through that but for me it was fun.
The whole purpose of this series is to teach you how to mix and match. How to mix textures, colors, prints and strips, how to combine accessories, with the outfit. How to make an outfit look dressy and yet with different shoes and purse it becomes everyday. Experiment with your clothes, have fun with them, be a little daring. Make sure you do it on a day when you feel confident, or practice some of your outfits before you leave the house on days when you don't have to be some place. If you feel foolish or out of place don't wear it out and about. At least once a week experiment with your clothes. If you tend to buy things in a color palette, certain styles and always go for the same thing, then that is probably your style. If you bored with it shake it up. I love red, which you already know if you follow me. This sweater has a lot of say on it's own, so when accessorizing, I use something that is in another color range but can hold it own against the red. The animal print belt makes it fun and interesting, to match red everywhere else would be a disaster. Today I was feeling old, I had just gotten several fashion magazines and it made me feel old. I thought why am I writing this, why do I care, is anyone even looking at this. Then I snapped out of and realized that there a lot of women of a certain age, that care, about how they look. Not so much if they are "in fashion" but whether they look great, age appropriate and feel amazing in their own skin and the clothing they are wearing. So I carry on sharing my ideas and sense of style. The bonus at the end of this photo session you will see a photo from the new J. Crew catalog, it's Linda Rodin a famous stylist, fashion icon, and now the owner of a beauty line. She's older and she cares, and she wears J. Crew and Levi's. Sunday I love Sunday it's the day the world sorta takes a break or at least it seems to, things seem a bit slower. You go to church or whatever your morning routine is and then you get to play, go for a bike ride, walk, hike, golf , etc. So it's a good day to dress up and then really go casual. This vest is so old, but so current for now with it's trim and bead work, paired with a white J Crew shirt and jeans it works for dressy and casual. This time it's the Eco Levi's with a soft pink belt which you would not see if the vest were completely buttoned. I would but a two roll at the bottom of the jeans, as I would want them to look more styled and formal. As you go through this journal of denim styles here are some things to remember to make it pertinent to you. First of all I only buy styles that look good on me and that look like my personality. I only buy clothes that fit, if they don't I have them altered by my good friend Marina. I have a color palette that is kind to my skin tone that I stick to, a lot of khaki brown, grey, soft pinks, red, and white. I stay away from a lot of black it' does not favor my skin color. Everything in my closet for the most part goes with at least three other things . I have three summer purses and four winter purses, which is not a lot by today's standard. I do have a lot of jewelry and a small scarf collection. All my accessories look like me, tend towards fashion more than not and add that extra punch that I so love. I made this over shirt, I love to sew although I have been making more simple things. I use to sew for the Guthrie Theatre, I would even make my own coats. I don't do that so much anymore. This shirt is great I can wear it as a top or as pictured here over a shirt, almost any shirt in my closet will work. I would put a simple two roll at the bottom of the jeans for this look, keeping it simple and classic. I can wear just about any combination of purse and shoes that I have to this outfit, because it's so simple, classic and the fabrications go with anything. Ah, Day Two this is so exciting, I love putting this together. This is another summer to fall look, I love RED as you can probably tell, I wear it all year long. I love color actually. So why have I put together what I have put together? Well, I have paired a simple red and white gingham checked shirt (a classic) with my Eco Levi's Jeans and a skinny red belt, I love the contrast of the yellow necklace with the red. It makes for a happy outfit, and I always say be bold with color, because it's fun to be bold with color. The shoe and footwear choices are a little different in that I have chosen to not pair red shoes with this outfit. Why? Because it breaks up the look, red on top and the bottom are not a good idea. The red purse works with either shoe choice depending on the weather, with the boots being for a colder day. The brown bag and men's inspired shoes would also be a great look with this outfit. The men inspired shoes, are a definite "fashion item" for this upcoming fall. As I always say to my client's PLAY WITH YOUR CLOTHES, HAVE FUN WITH THEM THIS IS NOT SERIOUS STUFF. I am so excited about my 30days of denim blogging that I have decided I am going to start it this coming Monday. The clothes are from my closet but I have noticed that stores already have their fall lines in so to help you with ideas for shopping I am doing this sooner. These blogs will have lots and lots of ideas and information as to how and why the outfits and accessories work together. Stay tune for this coming Monday, August 13th to begin the journey. I borrowed this book from my daughter. Last night I crawled into bed, watch Gabby take home the gold for gymnastics at the Olympics and read this book. I am a woman so I can do two things at once. I thought I knew a lot about green living and actually I do, but this one has added even more fuel to the fire. I love the beauty and health tips. Eating to support healthy skin and your personal health, using organic products for caring for your skin, hair, and to use as make-up. BEing kind to the planet, saving money and looking drop dead gorgeous or handsome. What is not to love.? I can't wait to curl up again tonight to read more.
